The Swedish team Falun defeated the Czech champions from Střešovice by 4:2 in the quarterfinal game and qualified for the tonight's semifinals. Despite the team from Prague was bravely resisting the Swedish attacking attempts and tried to score an equalizer when the score was 2:3 before the end, Falun ensured their spot in the semifinals with a converted penalty shot in the last minute of the game.

"It's a real pity. Falun came with a young team without previous experience from Chance Czech Open, and so I hoped we would beat them. We played responsibly in defence and blocked their shots perfectly, which is a half of the success. We can really regret the unconverted opportunities; we had quite a lot of them," the Střešovice defender, Milan Garčar, commented on the game.

The audience at Sparta arena waited for the opening goal until the half of the game, when Vlastimil Princ scored. Two minutes later, the score was tied after a tip in by Christian Wagneryd from Falun, and then his team showed a great combination, when Patrik Malmström scored from a volley after Lundmark's lob through the air.

After the break, Falun scored again. Mattsson's pass to the top of the crease was converted by Norell, who set the score to 3:1.

"When Falun started to play patiently, we waited for a while only. We lost our concentration a bit and that resulted in two goals, when we let the opponents too close to our goal. Then we played quite diffidently and Falun controlled the ball perfectly," explained the national team defender, Milan Garčar.

Tatran tried their best to reduce the score in the third period. But they scored in the last minute only, when they pulled their goalie in the power play, played six on four, and Milan Fridrich scored from a pass from the corner with a volley tip-in.

There was only one minute left for the Prague team to equalize, but in the end they conceded from Eric Björk's penalty shot, who set the final score at 4:2 for Falun.

"Maybe, if Björk had not converted the penalty shot, we might have been able to score at the very last moment. But there are no 'ifs'. In comparison with the Swedish teams, we would need to gain some more confidence. They were also better in controlling of the ball," added Milan Garčar, who spent the past season in Falun.

Garčar has therefore played twice against his previous team at this tournament. In the preliminary group, he even helped his team to tie the game at 3:3.

"The preliminary group games are shorter, so only now could Falun play more patiently. But it was an open game. With lots of challenges, which is good. It definitely helps to build up the atmosphere. The Swedes are used to that, and we are well-prepared and can adapt to that," Garčar concluded.
