THE Czech Open DREAM... Day 1
(16. 8. 2007, Western Australian Daily)
So, the seeds have sprouted, the leaves are reaching up to the sun and the buds are forming. This is it, the 15th Czech Open has begun. The Floorball Summer of Love has blossomed into full colour from early this morning. (Rumour has it, the next Sony Bravia ad will be filmed under the blanket of colour across Prague this week.) Already, trams and buses are criss-crossing the city with dozens of floorball players hurrying to their venues. Carrying their floorball sticks like long-stem roses and covering the city in colour, much like the tulips of spring. The Bulach-Kloten Jets have arrived and have adorned their Karlin hotel rooms with fabulous floral arrangements. Can the likes of Joho, Staubli and Zizkova guide them to victory in their group against the Czechs and Russians and send them to the Female Elite finals at T-Mobile Arena? Tatran Stresovice and IBK Dalen have opened their accounts and will fight for the top of the AC group, while Wiler have recorded 2 shock ties and will have to work hard tomorrow to play under the lights of T-Mobile on the weekend. Sadly, there are no Red Ants marching into Prague this year, so the Jets Ladies Yodelling team will have to set the standard in song for the Swiss. The 5 levels of Lazne will be no match for the dulcet tones of the Jets. They've already posted a win too, so there will be a tussle in group EFB for top spot with Dekanka also taking 2 points today. Across in the EFA group, the Craaaaaaazy Girls from Liberec started with a strong 4:0 result against Sweden's IBC Ostersund. Zug United will be eyeing off top spot too, with a close win over SSK Vitkovice. Off the court, it must be said again that the efforts of messrs. Vaculik and co. from the organising team have really put together a display that is truly pleasing to the eye. And strangely enough, the aptly named Paradiso pizzeria is located just down the road from the Summer of Love headquarters at Sparta Hall. Far out man!! Don't forget Karlovy Lazne tonight and the Aussie Beach Party tomorrow night... remember, it's 100Kc if you get your tickets early, or 150Kc on the door. There is plenty of cover over the bars at Zlute Lazny, so don't be put off by the warm summer rain, it will just add to the awesome Aussie atmosphere in Prague!! Oh... and "vsechno nejlepsi v svatek" to every Petra today... I'm off to Lazne... see you tomorrow for a "pekny patek". |
